Things I would like to exist
Things I'm considering making/doing
"If you want something done right, do it yourself". Many of these might not be done, so feel free to pick up any that you also feel are inspiring. Please note that I have very little trust for commercial organizations, so even if there may appear to be non open solutions, for me to consider using them they must have no lock-in and an extremely competitive price. This pairs poorly with commercial development incentives.
- Many research paper ideas (in varying stages of refinement)
- A textbook about authentication
- Persistent "serverless" P2P/Federated real-time MMOG infrastructure
- For a friend: a game using the above and including hitscan/projectile weaponry (yes, I know some of the networking challenges, there's a reason I haven't built it yet)
- Various filk songs to write
- Image/article bookmarking + tagging site. Ideally p2p and distributed.
- Single notifications center for everything with automatic prioritization, etc
- Backup tool for online serials — webcomics, webnovels, etc
- Repair copyright law to respect memory offloading
- Repair copyright law to return durations to something sane
- Fix PCI standards to remove requirement for 3 month password rotation
- Unicode character input device / keyboard. Not the only one who cares; there are some issues with compatibility
- Dragon quadsuit (not toony)
- Better web browser for later finding seen content
- Personal iconography (actually feasible with modern AI tools)
- Mending missing buttons and small clothing tears
- Acquiring context from past popular fiction
- Digital sovereignty: personal email server
- Identify a task management + planning system, then software to support it
- Human scale base 12 measuring system based on fundamental physical constants
- Human harnesses for carrying items (biomechanical engineering?)
- Better open-source English spell checker (stemming aware)
- Home automation (lights primarily) — secure and battery-free
- Vim-inspired modal editor
- Switch keyboard layouts, likely to Hands Down or something with similar features
- Skills evaluation and training system; if popular can do certificates
- World builder (Dwarf fortress does much of this but is not opens source)
- Evaluate a keyboard/mouse combo (KeyMouse, King's Assembly, etc)
- Sovereignty: investigate home manufacturing options
- Universal displays and sharing, including secure protocols
- Learn guitar for filk singing
Ongoing projects
- Teach computers/security
- SkyLords, a community and interactive MMOG
- Filk song wiki
- Learn storytelling
- Social communication — presently on Bluesky, eventually blogging here
Things someone else already made
